Recently I wrote an article about, Healthcare 4.0 is not a myth anymore and it's happening now. There are 12 technology and Innovations are going to reshape the healthcare on 2020. Though my this article series I will give you a good understanding of each of this technology innovations and why they are reshape the healthcare on 2020. Let's call this series care2020 (#care2020) and this is the part 6. Previous was one was - AI to to transform science papers to Science knowledge.
Recently I was doing a health check and a part of the health check program I also had to take the test by ultrasound machine. And it came to my notice one more time that - it's BIG, it's EXPANSIVE. Then I was thinking -
How many people on this world actually don't have access this machine?
The answer is - there are more than 4 billion people globally who don’t have access to medical imagine!
What could be a solution for them? What could actually battle that SIZE and COST problem?
There is a hope, which is built by Butterfly iQ. Butterfly iQ has developed a handheld ultrasound device! A Yale genetics researcher and serial entrepreneur named Jonathan Rothberg has figured out how to put ultrasound technology on a chip, so instead of a $100,000 machine in a hospital, it’s a $2,000 go-anywhere gadget that connects to an iPhone app!
But the progress did not stop there, the and already moved further already - the device went on sale last year to medical professionals. About them aim Rothberg have mentioned -
"Our goal is to sell to 150 countries that can pay for it. And we also have a program with the Gates Foundation is distributing it in 53 countries that can’t,” .
Now let's talk about the limitation as the company is still working to make a better version of the product. In term of limitation, the device isn’t as good as the big machines are and won’t replace them in prosperous parts of the world. But it could make scanning more routine.
The way Rothberg belives is -
There was a time when the thermometer was only used in a medical setting, when a blood-pressure cuff was only used in a medical center, and the day to come when the ultrasound machine will be everyone's pocket.
The next article is on 6th technology and innovation, will reshape the healthcare in 2020 - Retail super market model for health care
