Presenting is inevitable in any workplace. There are many forms of presentation but the bottom line is, this is a very important skill to learn no matter what your position or where you are working.
Know what you are presenting
The first thing that you need to keep in mind when you have a presentation is knowing the material or the topic you are presenting. This means choosing a topic that you are interested in and doing your research about it. Lots of research! The reason for this is because you will feel more confident once you know what you are talking about. If you like the topic, you are more likely to dig deeper to know more information about it and the more information you absorb, the more ideas you can communicate to your audience. Understanding is more important than just memorizing the information because if you understand the material, you will be able to communicate that information for effectively. But knowing your topic is not enough; you also need to know the small bits of information that make your presentation stand out. This includes the format of the presentation. There are many ways you can present; you can do a discussion-based presentation or a debate form; no matter what you decide, you have to know what works best for you.
2. Knowing your audience
Knowing your audience is one of the most important to know before delivering or even planning a presentation. As much as possible, you want to cater your presentation to the desire of the audience. Are you presenting in a group of teenagers or group f executive board members? Because the way you present to this group must be different. If you can cater your presentation to your audience's demand, the flow of your presentation will be easier to follow. Knowing what your audience wants will also help boost your confidence.
3. Practice as much as you can
The old saying goes, "practice makes perfect," and it also applies to presentation. Again, it is essential that when you are practicing, you first focus on Understanding before memorizing. When you have enough practice, there will be less room for mistakes. You will be more comfortable once the actual presentation comes. It is wiser to make mistakes and point out the things that need changes while still practicing rather than realizing them during your actual presentation. The most important thing to remember when you are in the practicing stage is to be yourself, the version of yourself at the most energetic. You must seem like you are not enjoying the presentation. Share some few stores and appropriate jokes but try not to overshare because it may lead to going off-topic. Once again, preparation is the key to mastering any presentation. Preparation from doing your research, understanding the information and preparation of your delivery of the presentation.
