What is Digital Marketing?

Marketing has always been about connecting with your audience in the right place and at the right time. Today, with the advancement of technology, a new way that we reach audience is through digital marketing.

Basically, digital marketing is any form of marketing that involves electronic devices. Digital marketing is the use of the Internet, mobile devices, social media, search engines, and other channels to reach consumers. Internet marketing and digital marketing is different, in which Internet marketing is advertising that is only on the Internet, whereas digital marketing is through many platforms such as mobile devices, on a subway platform, in a video game, or via a smartphone app.

Some Types of Digital Marketing

There are several common methods for conducting digital marketing, including:

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

SEO is the process of improving ranking compared with other websites to increase number of online traffic which is the amount of customers accessing your websites, blogs. The more your page appear in search results, the more likely you are to get attention and attract potential customers to your business.

2. Pay-Per-Click (PPC):

PPC is a common online method for advertising where a business only pays for its ads and allows advertisers to place ads on search engines, social media platforms, and third-party websites, paying a fee whenever the ad is clicked. One of the most common types of PPC is Google Ads, which allows you to pay for top slots on Google's search engine results pages at a price "per click" of the links you place.

3. Social Media Marketing: (SMM)

Social media marketing is the practice of using social media channels to promote business products or services. The primary goal of a social media marketing campaign is brand awareness and establishing social trust.

4. Email Marketing:

Email marketing enables businesses to send branded, promotional content directly to prospective customers via email. Email is often used to promote content, discounts and events, as well as to direct people toward the business's website. The use of automated newsletters is common in this context. Companies use email marketing as a way of communicating with their audiences.

5. Affiliate Marketing:

This is a type of advertising where you receive commission for promoting someone else's products or services on your website. With affiliate marketing, influencers promote other people’s products and get a commission every time a sale is made or a lead is introduced. An example is Shopee which has affiliate programs that pay out to websites that sell their products.

6. Content Marketing:

Content marketing refers to the process of reaching customers through content such as publishing and distribution of text, video or audio materials to customers online. The goal is to have the reader take an action towards becoming a customer, such as requesting more information, signing up for an email list, or making a purchase. The common tools to engage in content marketing include blogs, ebooks, online courses, infographics, podcasts, and webinars.

7. Sponsored Content

With sponsored content, a brand pays another company to create and promote content which related to that brand. A common type of sponsored content is influencer marketing, in which a brand sponsors an influencer in its industry to publish posts or videos related to the company on social media. Another type could be a blog post or article that is written to highlight a topic, service, or brand.
